Scheme Overview
BRCGS launched the new Packaging Materials Standard Issue in October 2024, with the objective of clarifying and strengthening core requirements, and increasing the focus on:
- Product safety culture
- Aligning hazard analysis and risk assessment systems with Codex Alimentarius
- Continual improvement processes and implementation of systems
Issue 7 brings the Standard up to date with current industry trends and practices, for example the inclusion of single-use disposable products. This ensures that it continues to add value and instil trust for all stakeholders in the industry.

Your path to certification with us
01. Application
Call or email us to discuss you requirements with one of our Client Coordinators who will be happy to talk you through how we work. Applications are completed and a quote provided on the same day or within 24 hours. Audit expenses are also confirmed in advance. So you get full transparency and no surprises.
02. Audit Planning
When you accept our quote, our Planning Team will contact you to arrange your audit. We’ll allocate an auditor close to you, who also has the knowledge and experience of your product or service category. We usually plan audits 6 months in advance, but if an audit is needed at short notice let us know.
03. Your Audit
We have a stable team of experienced auditors with long-term experience of the standard. This improves the quality of your audit and makes standardisation and calibration far better. This means that you get a much more accurate, fair and unbiased audit.
04. Certification
After your audit and you’ve submitted any corrective actions, we will issue the report and certificate within 30 days. This best in-class turnaround time is 10 days faster than the scheme average. This means you can display it in pride-of-place in your business and start using it without delay.
05. After the Audit
Your Client Coordinator will be proactive to ensure you have your next audit planned and booked in good time. They will also coordinate time with our office-based Operations and Technical team, to deal promptly with any queries regarding the scheme and your ongoing certification.
